Factors and Advice to Consider Before Purchasing

  • Semi-automatic or Revolver?
  • Main reason (use) for the firearm (home protection, carry, target, etc.)
  • Caliber (Common calibers are readily available)
    • Common calibers: 9mm, 380 ACP, 22 LR, 38 Special, 357 Mag, 45 ACP
    • Rare calibers: 10 mm, 357 Sig, 40 S&W, 44 Mag, 22 WMR, 5.7 FN
  • Budget (include accessories needed and ammo)
  • How does the handgun fit in your hand?
    • Does your hand fit tightly at the top of the grip?
    • Can you hold the firearm securly?
    • Does your hand naturally go to the correct position when you pick it up or pull it from the holster?
    • How does the weight of the firearm feel?
  • Are you able to operate the handgun mechanics
  • Do you want a manual safety?
  • What kind of trigger performance do you prefer?
  • Are you considering using a red/green dot optic?
Most importantly: do not choose a firearm based on what other people say you should get nor choose one because it was used in a movie or video game. Choose the weapon that fits you and your style the best. IF THE FIREARM DOES NOT FEEL GOOD IN YOUR HAND, YOU WILL NOT SHOOT IT WELL!
